This is a very common question from parents who realize the importance of developing a love of music at a very early age. But when it comes to young children in piano lessons, we have learned to gauge "readiness" by at least five key factors:
Home Coach's participation: Perhaps the most important factor is the Home Coach's willingness to be engaged with his/her child's learning process. Piano4FUN Policies require that a mom, dad, or other adult be willing to regularly "coach" the child in developing appropriate habits (i.e. listening, rehearsing, completing projects, etc.) at home! Without this strong coaching partnership between the Home Coach, the Method Coach, and the Student, the studio experience cannot be as successful as it could be, regardless of age!
Attention Span: Can the child actively engage in learning for 30 minutes or more?
Ability to Follow Directions: Will the child willingly agree to comply with simple instructions?
Social Development: Is the child comfortable functioning around adults and/or small groups of peers in an appropriate manner?
Trust: Will both the Home Coach and Student agree to consistently trust the Music Coach & the process, and be willing to consistently follow the steps of the curriculum as assigned each week?
